My name is Christy Blalock, and I am a Louisiana artist with a deep love for mixed media. I create layered, relief-textured artworks that incorporate various materials with layers of paint to produce rich, tactile surfaces. The heart of my work lies in the natural beauty and cultural essence of Louisiana. Though I don’t strive for realism, my pieces are abstract expressions of local wildlife and landscapes, allowing viewers to interpret and connect with them in their own ways.
My passion for art started in childhood. Embracing the joy of drawing throughout my early years, certain that art would be a big part of my life, I pursued this calling at McNeese State University, where I earned my bachelor’s degree in art. Later, I obtained a master’s degree in school counseling, leading to a career in school counseling. After 16 years teaching art in Calcasieu Parish Schools, followed by seven years as a school counselor, I retired from the school system to fully embrace my dream of being a full-time artist. I am deeply grateful to my community for supporting me on this journey.
I favor a calm and soothing color palette, hoping to provide a sense of peace and refuge to anyone who views my art. I intend to create a safe space from the chaos outside, where the eye and mind can rest. Art, for me, is both a creative and regenerative process.
I love creating art you can feel with your eyes, your hands, and your heart. I hope my work offers each viewer a moment of calm, a spark of joy, and a reminder of the resilience and beauty that can be found all around us.
